The Stand Down Protocol  ·  Agency Edition

Recovery, trained the way you already train response.

Twelve weeks to install. Yours to run forever after that, with your own certified people.

You are not buying twelve weeks of a trainer. You are buying a permanent capability: twelve drills, a schedule, a log, and a report, installed once and run by your own staff for as long as you want it. Built for corrections, law enforcement, fire, EMS, dispatch, military, and clinical shops that cannot pull people off the floor.

Here for the free Field Guide for your people? It is here, and any agency may reproduce it. The Agency Edition is what comes after it.

The sentences we actually hear.

These come up in first meetings. They are not a study. They are what gets said.

  • "We have an employee assistance program. Almost nobody calls it."
  • "I have bought three programs like this. All three became a poster in the break room."
  • "I cannot pull twelve people off the floor. Ever."
  • "My people are tired when they get here and worse when they leave."
  • "Whatever we buy has to survive the next change of command."
  • "The last vendor's program left when the vendor left."
  • "If my people think this data goes in a file, nobody fills it out."

Everyone in this work is trained to go up. Almost nobody is trained for the other half, which is what the body does after. That is the gap this fills.

Said plainly, before anyone else says it: this does not fix staffing. Staffing is a real problem with real solutions and none of them are in this program.

What gets installed.

Twelve weeks. Twelve drills. Ten minutes a week on a schedule you already have, plus a roll-call format for shops that cannot pull people off the floor. The longest drill takes ten minutes. Eight of them take under two.

Your own certified trainers

Half-day certification, written facilitator scripts, annual recertification. One trainer is selected by the represented workforce, not by management.

Twelve recorded sessions

Eight to twelve minutes each. The night shift watches the same session the day shift sat through.

The Protocol Manual and drill cards

Twelve drills, one page each, spiral bound so it sits open on a table. A pocket card for every person in the organization, not just the cohort.

The Signal Check

Ten self-report statements, scored in week one, day twenty eight, and week twelve. Anonymous. This is where your report comes from.

Supervisor tools

Supervisor's Guide, signs and referral card, roll-call deck, and an escalation protocol co-signed with your existing employee assistance program, peer support team, or chaplaincy.

The institutional layer

Draft policy and general order language, an academy and onboarding module for new hires, a standards crosswalk, a family brief, and a unit report at week twelve and again at six months.

Your sector's version

Corrections, sworn, telecommunications, clinical, or military. Same drills. Your scenarios, your vocabulary, your shift pattern.

What you hold at week twelve.

Not a completed class. An installed capability.

  • A perpetual license. You run this with your own trainers, on your own schedule, for as long as you want, with no additional fee.
  • Certified trainers on your payroll, and a written path to certify their replacements when they transfer or retire.
  • A one-page report you can take to a budget meeting.
  • Draft policy language, so the program sits in policy rather than in a binder.
  • An academy module, so every recruit gets it permanently.
  • The recorded sessions, the scripts, the manual, and the cards, in your hands.

What it costs.

Now put that next to what it costs your organization to recruit, screen, hire, and train one replacement. We do not supply that figure. You already have it. Ask for the Recovery Math worksheet and fill in your own numbers.

The outcome commitment

If it does not move the number, the first recertification year is free.

If fewer than sixty percent of qualifying participants improve by at least one point on two of the three primary Signal Check items, the first recertification year is provided at no charge.

Qualifying participant means someone who completed the baseline, completed the week twelve reassessment, and attended or watched at least eight of the twelve sessions. This is not a refund and it is not a clinical outcome promise. It is a self-report measure, a completion floor, and a remedy in kind.

Your people's data.

  • Responses are anonymous. Individual responses are never provided to the employer, in any form, at any time.
  • Aggregate reporting only, and only where the group is eight or more. Below eight, no report is issued.
  • No result, and no record of participation or non-participation, may be used in any fitness-for-duty determination, promotion decision, assignment decision, or disciplinary process.
  • Participants receive their own individual results. Nobody else does.
  • Participation is voluntary, on duty time, and non-participation is not recorded.

All five are written into the license agreement, not promised in a meeting.

Who delivers it.

Adam Jacobs. Senior Chief Petty Officer, United States Coast Guard Reserve, fourteen years in uniform, currently running a joint operations center on a federal mission.

This is peer delivery. Not a counselor with a brochure, and not a consultant who has read about the schedule you work. The program exists because the recovery half was never trained, and it is built to be handed off to your people and left with them.

Disclosure, volunteered up front. The founder owns a separate consumer business unrelated to this program. No product of any kind appears in an agency engagement. Not mentioned, not sampled, not in the bio slide.

Start with the free guide, and keep it free.

The Stand Down Field Guide is a 28-page booklet with four of the twelve drills. Any state, federal, or local agency may reproduce it for its own people at no cost and with no agreement to sign. Point your staff at astralandroot.com/fg, or ask for the print file. A state department of corrections runs it through its chaplaincy corps today.

The Agency Edition is what you install after the guide has proven that your people will run a drill.

What this is not.

  • No clinical services. No diagnosis, no treatment, no therapy.
  • No replacement for your employee assistance program, peer support team, chaplaincy, or behavioral health. This routes people toward them and says so in writing.
  • No app, no platform, no login.
  • No individual coaching.
  • No promise that this fixes staffing.

The next step is a twenty minute call.

Not a pitch. Four questions: what you already have in place, what happened to the last thing you bought, how a purchase this size actually gets approved in your organization, and what would have to be true at week twelve for you to renew it without a fight.
